If
You Are Going to Live Here, You Must Know These
Peachtree Street
I have lost track of how many roads in and around Atlanta have the name
Peachtree Street, but there are well over 100. The one-and-only true Peachtree
Street was named after an old Indian Path, the and runs north and south
through the center of Atlanta. You also may just find some other Peachtree’s
in other suburban areas.
The Hooch
Short for the Chattahoochee River. Really beautiful. Go find your waders
and go fishin'.
The Perimeter
What is inside and outside the Perimeter? (ITP and OTP). The Perimeter
is the Interstate 285 which circles Atlanta. Wait until you move here
and go in circles. There are very interesting stories about people who
could never get to where they were going as they kept going right by it!
The Big Chicken
You will hear this a lot if you plan to live near Marietta. Directions
are given starting with "from the Big Chicken." It is actually
this huge statue of a chicken at a KFC.
The Connector
The "connection" of I-75 and I-85 as they run through Downtown.
Remember, the roads just begin and end here for no real reason at all.
Buckhead
This is where you want to go for shopping and dining. Beautiful and well-to-do
area of some of the most beautiful old residences and very large estate
lots. The old rich and now the new rich live here. Strange name though,
can’t see where it really fits the demeanor of the area.
Spaghetti Junction
This is not a restaurant. It is a section of I-85 and I-285 which is so
looped around it does actually resemble some spaghetti if you look at
it really hard. You should own a map and figure out where you are going
before attempting to use it. I always recommend a very good map for all
the family cars after moving here. My first attempt led me to Dahlonega
instead of Lawrenceville. (That's a big difference!)
